“Alright kid, I’ll let you go this time, but I got my eye on you…”
– The cashier
When I was a child, I was always anxious whenever my mother left me alone at the grocery checkout line because she needed to grab something else. What do I do if she doesn’t come back in time? I can’t afford all of these groceries, I’m just a kid! The cashier’s going to yell at me for my fiscal irresponsibility and surely they won’t believe I was just holding my mother’s place in line – they must have heard that excuse from hundreds of would-be thieves!
