Five years after the Battle of Garreg Mach, an unprecedented era of peace has returned to the continent of Fódlan under the leadership of the Professor President. Those Who Slither in the Dark have been defeated and the Adrestian Empire, Kingdom of Faerghus, and Leicester Alliance have united as the Democratic Republic of Fódlan. But when a mysterious doppelganger appears at the Millenium Festival, looking and behaving exactly like the Professor, the young nation faces a new threat to its peace. Who is this stranger? And are they friend… or foe?

– Preview for the upcoming Fire Emblem: Three Houses DLC – Golden Straw

Fire Emblem: Three Houses provides a strong story set in a rich world with a large cast of deep and complex characters. That is, except for the main character Byleth, who is given too much personality to be a good “self-insert” character, but too little personality to be considered a character at all. And yet they’re simultaneously the most charismatic leader in the world and Fódlan’s best therapist, literally being the difference between a world leader becoming a just and stable ruler or a sociopathic tyrant. I’m certain if you replace all of Byleth’s lines with “…” the story will be completely unchanged.
