There’s a common sentiment about the Internet, that it can provide you any kind of information or ideas you can imagine, no matter how obscure. This sentiment underlies such statements as, “there’s a subreddit for everything,” or “nothing ever gets deleted from the internet,” or “Rule 34” – but over the years, I’ve grown to be quite resentful of this idea. Because it’s not actually true. It’s a promise the Internet has made to me that it has broken on countless occasions.
