“That’s the problem with modern vampire fiction writers! The random human girl’s suitors spend too much time fighting each other when they should be united in how she’s the most perfect and beautiful woman on the planet!”
– True vampire fans
I first read Dracula in middle school and I can recall enjoying it at the time. I reread the book a couple of months back and I realized that I could remember almost the entire first four chapters beat-by-beat but the rest of the story was fuzzier in my memory. Once I got to the end, I realized it’s because the first four chapters is the most engaging part and the rest of the (23!) chapters is 90% guys fawning over Lucy/Mina and then Dracula eventually going out like a chump.
