Unlike joining a game as another player, spectating a game does not require the permission of the players involved. There are certain restrictions in place that ensure spectators can’t abuse this system to gain an undue advantage against any gods they plan to antagonize. I don’t personally know what these restrictions are, but Gax is a much better game designer than I.

Also, since at least one person has asked and I’m sure many others would like to know, the pun in Al-Ehet’s name is a bit more esoteric than the others have been: it’s an anagram of the Greek word “alethe,” meaning “truth.”
