Derek Chauvin had 17 complaints filed against him, and was involved in 3 police shootings, before being fired and charged for the murder of George Floyd. Tou Thao, another police officer involved in George Floyd’s death, had 6 complaints against him and settled an excessive-force lawsuit for $25,000 in 2017. Philip Brailsford was acquitted for the murder of Daniel Shaver despite bodycam footage showing Brailsford gunning him down as Shaver cried on the floor. Even before this, Brailsford received no consequences for being caught on camera using excessive force against a teenager in 2015. The officers who killed Breonna Taylor have not yet been arrested – Brett Hankison was only fired 3 months after the shooting and Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove were placed on administrative reassignment.

And yet we still have people saying it’s “one bad hamburger.”
